Review by SK : Difficult to put on :(
I ordered these for a 2011 Mini with stock 175/65-15 wheels. While the chains seem to be very solid and well made, they were very difficult to put on and I could not get them to fit correctly. After I finally wrapped them around the tires, I could not get the rubber tightener to connect to more than two points on the chains. It was way too tight! This is coming from someone who is used to cable chains and who does not have a lot of strength.
Review by Edwin R Chambers : Fits my tires, but rubber tensioner is too small
I purchased these to go with my GMC Sierra. I have Hankook DynaPro ATM P265/70R17 tires. I test fit the chains today to find out whether they worked. The chains fit on the tire OK, but I was unable to put the tire tensioners on. Fortunately, I bought a pair of the Light Truck Tire tensioners, Security Chain Co. Model QG20074, and they fit OK. I think they will perform as expected with the aftermarket tensioners.*Edit: I contacted Security Chain, and they told me it was not safe to use the QG20074 tensioners on the Whitestar Chains. I am going to test fit one more time to make sure it wasn't me not getting them on there well, but I will probably have to return the chains.
Review by Just Anonymous : High Quality Chains
Overall, I was very impressed with the quality of these chains. Call me old school but I grew up with a father that put "chains" on his truck, not cables or Z cables or some other "traction" device --- these are Chains, they look like chains and they feel like chains when you drive. That said, they're an upgrade to old school chains because they are easier to to install and keep tight, the design provides more traction than normal chains, and the chains are made of a tougher alloy. There are a lot of products out there on the market from cables to chain products. These are kindof a hybrid product. Let me explain. The inside of the chain is actually a cable coated in thick blue plastic that makes it easy for you to know what side goes on the inside and what side goes on the outside. The blue cable has a very easy attachment mechanism. The cross members (what your tires ride on and strike the pavement) are made of a tough alloy chain which should give you longer wear. The outside chains are made of what appears to be standard chain material. You get a repair kit btw for the chain links. There is a rubber tensioner that you attach to the chains on the outside to keep them under tension (probably the most failure prone part of the contraption). So other than that, just make sure that you get the right size and quite frankly know what you're buying because there are a lot of products out there, some are right for you and some are not. As chains, these are heavier than some of the cable products I've seen but they're not as heavy as "old school" chains. I'm very happy with this purchase. You can tell it's a high quality product that someone spent time improving to make your world easier (well as easy as your world is if you have to put chains on your truck and drive around in the middle of winter).
Review by Bard I. Bennett : Fits Highlander Limited - barely
My Highlander Limited has P245/55/19 tires and according to the Security Chain Company product list these are the only metal crosslink chains that will fit. They were right but it took quite a bit of work to put them on. One has to make sure every bit of slack is taken out and then the chains will fit if you use the last link in the connectors. I recommend buying an extra set of tighteners that have less robust rubber bands so that you can stretch them more easily than those which come with the chains.
Review by soonerlightning : tire chains wont fit
Chains look nice but do not fit the tires stated. I have a 275/55/20 and the chains are about 3-4" short of fitting and connecting at the ends.
Review by Speedogg : Good Product
This is my second set of these chains. They are easy to install and are very lightweight yet strong. Like any chain, make sure they fit tight and they will hold up well. They provide much better traction than cables.
Review by pawel : good product
Good quality of chain, easy installation but does not fit (are to tight ) tire 225/65-17 (Honda CR-V EX 2007 )
Review by Eric : Easy to apply and very effective
These things are great. Very easy to apply, especially since the car doesn't have to be moved to apply them. Grip great in just about anything. I would reccomend buying an extra set of chain tensioners, since that seems to be about the most failure-prone part of the rig (this is true of all tire chains).
Review by olgzr : Tire chains
The chains I ordered arrived quicker than expected and were exactly what I ordered. I have not used them yet but did a trial fit and they fit great.
